Metal Casting Technologies : June 2006
BRIEFINGS Trust your most complex cores to INCAST ®. The ideal combination of geometry, density and particle size distribution, INCAST improves critical core making and casting properties including binder utilization, permeability and dimensional stability. Higher strength cores, better surface finish and increased efficiency and yield are the INCAST advantages. These sands are engineered for the metalcaster. The company has facilities in Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, China, North America and Europe; and products incorporating PBR technology are manufactured under license in North America, Japan, Korea, China, Turkey and Brazil. Emissions conference explores environmental solutions The American Foundry Society Conference on Advancements in Low Emissions Castings Technology was held at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza Hotel in March. The conference focused on providing metalcasters an open exchange of information and ideas relating to low emissions technology and how it can be used to improve processes, production and the environment. Leading suppliers and metalcasting experts discussed the process and the environmental benefits and limitations of alternative sand binder systems. Presentation topics included: challenges the metalcasting industry will face in the future; environmental, safety and health considerations; new developments in resin coated sand technology; and the reduction of emissions in green sand processes. More information on the conference, contact Fred Kohloff at email@example.com Ashland Casting Solutions expands software As an expansion to its Casting Design Service Center, Ashland Casting Solutions has obtained licenses for MAGMA GmbH, MAGMASOFT software, and ESI-North America's ProCAST and QuikCast software. ProCAST software provides a complete finite element solution that allows for in-depth predictive evaluations of the entire casting process, including mold filling, solidification, microstructure and thermo-mechanical simulations. QuikCast software simulates the entire casting process from filling to solidification, including defects prediction using efficient finite difference technology. MAGMASOFT software is a comprehensive simulation tool featuring capabilities that show mold filling, solidification, mechanical properties, thermal stresses and distortions, and more for steel, aluminum alloys and Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI). , visit www.ashland.com.
