Two bolts in the T-shape cavity transfer Figure 1. Hot tearing test apparatus schematic plane Design and manufacture This apparatus is based on eliminating the mold effects on tensile and strain that occur in casting during solidification by providing a resistance with bolts. The bolts are joined to a rigid flask and the applied load to one of the bolts is measured with a load cell as illustrated in Figure 1 showing the apparatus schematic plane. The apparatus in Figure 1 includes: A sand silica mold and T shape cavity in its body, PC system and data converter, bolts (hooks) for restrain casting contraction, load cell (50KN) which enables the real-time measurement of the contraction load during solidification, K- type thermocouple, rigid flask with two steel plates, one incorporating a load cell and the upper molding box. contraction load to load cell and rigid flask thus restraining the free contraction of T-shape casting. Load cell has a special board that produces the data transferred to a computer and with special software which shows the load and provides a load-time graph for each experiment. A k-type thermocouple is located in the centre of the T-shaped casting to determine the temperature of the hot spot during solidification simultaneously with the load cell data. Use a dataloger and special software the temperature changes-time graph can be displayed and saved in the PC. To achieve confidence in the steel plate rigidity that holds the load cell, before the load cell is installed, both are tested at near the working condition. These plates are fixed in a bend tester which provides a stress-strain graph like in PACIFIC RIM FOUNDRY SERVICES Exclusive Representative for Mancuso Chemicals (Canada) in Australia and Southeast Asia Chemical Binder Systems State of the Art Technology at Competitive Prices Furane Resins and Catalysts Phenolic Urethane No-Bake Binders Phenolic Urethane Cold-Box Binders PACIFIC RIM CASTING & PATTERNMAKING SUPPLIES Marketing consumable products for the casting and patternmaking industries in New South Wales.
