The expanded Thai operation and the Tianjin (China) facility are the first two Volclay plants in Asia that will mill and blend coal and bentonite together to supply products for the foundry industry. Thailand to Pay More Attention to Industrial Standards During the present financial year the interim Thai government has increased the budget for developing industrial standards to around 600 million Baht, a rise of 30% compared to the previous year. In developing new standards, the Thai Industrial Standards Institute will also work more closely than before with other non-government organisations including the Engineering Institute of Thailand, the Non-Destructive Test Association, and the Federation of Thai Industries. A Thai Standardisation Council is to be set up to review and revise industrial and other standards to reduce duplication and confusion. New Technical Sales Manager for Dickinson's Dickinson's Metallurgical Supplies have appointed Kevin Morphett as Technical Sales Manager. Kevin has extensive experience as a metallurgist and production manager in Ferrous and Non- Ferrous foundries in Australia and South East Asia. Kevin has held senior positions with Bradken, Weir Minerals, Abel Lemon and ABC Castings. Kevin's main focus will be Queensland area sales and special projects. Tony Knight Elected New Casting Technology New Zealand Inc. Chairman The CTNZInc Board of Governors elected Board member Tony Knight Chairman at its first meeting for 2007. Tony takes up this position succeeding Mike Alston who had earlier signaled his intention to step down having served 2 terms in the role. At the meeting the five member Board thanked Mike for his great contribution to the association during his tenure as Chairman and in particular the leadership he had shown in chairing a successful 2006 Australasian Conference. Mike continues to serve the association retaining a position as a member of the Board of Governors. Tony Knight is well placed to take up the leadership role of the New Zealand metal casting industry bringing with him a depth of international experience while also working at the front in the local industry. Tony studied cast metals technology at Chesterfield College in the United Kingdom and worked at Rolls Royce in the UK where he managed the company research and development foundry for a short time and was Manufacturing Engineering Manager at the turbine blade manufacturing facility in Bristol. On arriving in New Zealand he initially worked as Foundry Manager with A.F. Fraser in Christchurch before moving north to his present position as Production Manager with A & G Price in Thames. Ashland Casting Solutions Appointments Jeong Park - Korea Foundry Products Jeong Hyun (J. H.) Park has been named general manager of Ashland Korea Foundry Products Ltd. Park joined Ashland 17 years ago serving the company with increasing responsibilities, most recently as plant manager. In his new role he will be responsible for Ashland Casting Solutions operations in Korea including such areas as business promotion, manufacturing, commercial management and technical support. Jim Archibald to lead Asia Business Development Jim Archibald has been named senior business development manager for Ashland's castings business in Asia. Archibald joined Ashland 22 years ago serving the company within numerous product and marketing positions in North America and globally. In his new role he will be responsible for developing new growth opportunities for Ashland Casting Solutions operations in the Asian region. Archibald will be located at Ashland Japan Ltd., in Yokohama. Tom Oliver -- Manufacturing Services Manager Tom Oliver has been named casting manufacturing services manager for Ashland Casting Solutions. Oliver joined Ashland 18 years ago serving the company in numerous sales positions in North America. In his new role he will be responsible for managing manufacturing services, training and managing a new consulting services group globally within Ashland castings organisation.
