Metal Casting Technologies : December 2010
34 www.metals.rala.com.au Flow Science releases FLOW-3D/MP v4.1! FLOW-3D/MP Version 4.1 offers users substantial performance improvements with possible scaling up to 64 cores and runtime improvements of as much as 40x over FLOW-3D Version 9.4.2. FLOW-3D users typically tackle transient free- surface problems, which are a difficult challenge for distributed-memory computing. With FLOW-3D/ MP Version 4.1, problems which previously took a week to complete can now be solved in hours. W: www.flow3d.com Australian steel plant reduces water footprint The steel manufacture's ongoing commitment to sustainability engaged Dickinson's Environmental Services (DES) to achieve water reduction at their Lime and Dolomite wet scrubber plant. Other systems had been trialled however these where troublesome, unreliable and high operational costs. DES recommended Siltbuster a mobile water clarifier. Siltbuster clarifiers remove fine particles from water. The treated water is recycled, captured fines are easily managed and disposed in an environmentally friendly form. The Siltbuster requires no power, has no moving parts and no filters. A Siltbuster HB50 unit was installed to treat incoming water and fines at approximately 750C and pH of 13. Siltbuster separates the fines from the water by creating a large settlement area but with a small physical unit footprint. The Siltbuster HB50 unit is recycling 95+% of the once lost water back into the wet scrubber plant. DES also supplied an OPEC oil recovery system on the concast plant. This system captures oil/grease from the continuous casting plant discharge water. This system reduced their chemical dosing volume considerably. The thin construction of the HyFlex 11-618 glove has been designed to offer outstanding comfort and sensitivity for the most delicate tasks. Made with palm coated nylon/polyurethane and an elasticised knitwrist, this glove is the lightest lined and coated glove ever made by Ansell The HyFlex 11-618 multi-purpose glove is 20 percent lighter in weight than Ansell's other nylon/ polyurethane gloves, yet provides light mechanical protection. Testing is compliant to AS/NZS 2161 and abrasion resistance rating is EN level 3 and level 1 for cuts -- a good standard given its thin and light construction. Ansell says this glove is ideal for light assembly applications requiring a high degree of precision. E: firstname.lastname@example.org W: www.ansell.com.au
