10 BRIEFINGS in China. The titanium company, which was built based on the large steel producer's two titanium branches as a restructuring result, has a registered capital of CNY 300 million. It has an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons of titanomagnetite concentrate and 72,000 tons of titanium dioxide. The new titanium company will produce 1.2 million tons of titanomagnetite concentrate, 300,000 tons of titanium slag annually after three years, creating CNY 15 billion production value and CNY 4 billion profits. It will be built as the largest producer of fine titanium material and special titanium products in China. First Thailand Metallurgy Conference In recent years there have been several Thai conferences on Foundry or on Materials in general but there has never been a conference devoted just to Metallurgy. Hence the "1st Thailand Metallurgy Conference" is to be held at the Century Park Hotel in Bangkok from 11-12th October 2007. The event is being organized by Chulalongkorn University, the Iron & Steel Institute of Thailand, the National Metals & Materials Technology Centre, and by Thainox Stainless Steel who have a large rolling plant in Rayong province. The theme is the structures- properties-processing-applications of metals. The conference will include the Thainox Metallurgy Award 2007 lecture competition for students. Conference papers will appear in a special issue of the Journal of Metals, Minerals and Materials published by Chulalongkorn University. Mike Swartzlander to Head Ashland's India Business Operations Mike Swartzlander has been named vice president and managing director, India, for Ashland Inc. Swartzlander previously served as vice president and general manager of Ashland's Casting Solutions business. The announcement was made by Peter Rijneveldshoek, president, Ashland Europe. Ashland Europe includes Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India. Although Ashland's business interests have been represented in India for a number of years, Swartzlander will be tasked with organizing, aligning and growing the businesses as one Ashland enterprise. Swartzlander will be based in Mumbai to direct Ashland's India business activities. Omega Foundry Machinery Awarded for International Trade Omega Foundry Machinery in the UK has received the Queen's Award for Enterprise 2007 in recognition of achievements in International Trade. Omega is a supplier of machines and complete installations to the foundry industry and is exporting more than 90% of its production. Engineering Goes 'State of the Art' in Australia SkillsTech Australia is a new entity within the Queensland TAFE (Technical and Further Education) sector that's significantly changing the face of trade and technical training in Queensland. SkillsTech Australia was established in July 2006 as part of the Queensland Government's billion dollar venture to transform and modernise the TAFE and Vocational and Education Training systems. SkillsTech Australia is currently comprised of two major campuses at Acacia Ridge on Brisbane's southside and Eagle Farm on the north. SkillsTech Australia, will lead product development and delivery throughout Queensland for automotive, building and construction, manufacturing, engineering, electrical/ electronics and emerging technologies. The Institute will provide leadership and training expertise to assist in the skilling of Queensland's trade and technical workforce both locally and regionally. Delivery methods include; face to face instruction, workplace based learning, texts, videoconferencing, simulators and e-learning. Training will be available 50 weeks of the year to allow employers greater choices.
