Metal Casting Technologies : September 2007
GIFA 2007 Esmeralda proves highly successful at GIFA 2007 Organised by members of the Australian foundry industry, this year the HMAS Esmeralda, moored alongside 'The Altstadt' located on the Rhein River, Düsseldorf. It provided comfortable accommodation to more than 70 attendees throughout the weeklong duration of GIFA 2007. The boat also provided meals, accommodation and a central point for everyone to catch up at the end of each day to share in what was learned and seen. The success of this venue was attributed to the informal friendly environment and everyone's participation. Entertainment was enjoyed by all at the Great Aussie BBQ night sponsored by Paul and Denise Gladwin, as well as all other sponsors. More than 50 per cent of attendees on the boat were from overseas including Italy, Germany, USA, Italy and for many this was their second or third time staying onboard. However, after having organised the last 3 boats at GIFA, Doug Maxwell, Malcolm Snowden and Mike Taylor have decided it is time to pass on the baton. Fortunately Peter McKelvie, Anthony McKelvie and Tod Morgan have stepped up and will be organising the next trip in 2011. www.metals.rala.com.au 18
