The conference and trade show was officially opened on the Sunday evening by Mr Darcy Hamill, National President of the Australian Foundry Industry Inc. Trent Raines of CMA Recycling was the MC for the evening. Delegates were entertained by a "look-a-like" Prime Minister John Howard before heading into the Exhibitors Hall where everyone was given the opportunity to network at the President's Reception. Delegates were provided with a comprehensive technical program by knowledgeable and respected speakers from Australia and overseas who presented informative papers fitting the theme, Solidified Solutions. ACHIEVERS OF THE YEAR The 2007 Western Australian Conference celebrated the industry's latest group of talented achievers by hosting the eight winners of the Cast Metals Industry Achiever of the Year Awards. Manning the Achiever's Booth at the trade exhibition, the achievers proudly displayed some of their handy work that included an impressive collection of ferrous and non ferrous castings, pattern tooling and hand drafted technical drawings. The work was of a high standard, reflecting the skills of each of the achievers, who were eager to discuss their projects with delegates. While attending the conference, the achievers were able to benefit by networking with delegates at the trade displays and attend technical lectures throughout the conference to expand their knowledge with the latest in foundry developments and cutting edge technology. In addition to this, the conference organising committee arranged for plant visits to All Cast (non ferrous), H. Rose & Co. (die casters), Law Castings (ferrous & non ferrous) and Tooling Solutions (master pattern shop) which the achievers really enjoyed. As well as paid travel to the conference and accommodation, donated by the respective state councils, together with complementary registration to the Great success at the Australian Foundry Institute Convention 38TH AFI CONFERENCE A METAL Casting Technologies December 2007 21 Photo taken outside the Perth Mint.
